The most common material used for making football jerseys is cotton, but synthetic materials such as polyester and acrylic have been used as well. A synthetic material usually has a tighter weave than a natural fiber, which helps it to be more durable.

A tight weave also makes it less likely to absorb moisture from sweat, which can cause it to shrink and lose its shape over time. Like natural fibers, synthetic materials are breathable, allowing them to be more comfortable when worn for long periods of time.
